About Peconic Land Trust
Since 1983, the Peconic Land Trust, a nonprofit charitable organization, has worked collaboratively with landowners, communities, municipalities, and partner organizations in securing millions of dollars to protect nearly 14,000 acres of land on Long Island, NY – more than 7,000 acres of farmland, many miles of trail systems, and over 6,000 acres of preserves and natural lands that protect watersheds, shorelines, wildlife habitat, scenic vistas, land sacred to indigenous people and historic resources.
Position Summary
We are seeking a creative problem solver to manage land transactions, facilitate projects, and assist with grant writing/billing processes, while contributing to organizational outreach, meetings, and policy initiatives. The Project Manager will collaborate with team members and other departments on relevant projects and fundraising activities.
Reporting to the Director of Conservation Initiatives, the successful candidate will enjoy working on puzzles and finding win/win solutions working with multiple stakeholders, partners, landowners and municipalities.

Some essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Meet with landowners to learn their goals, circumstances and property information.Educate them on options for the best conservation outcome.
- Bring in, manage, and execute multiple projects--Coordinate all details of each project with landowners, their advisors, and municipalities from inception to closing.
- Interface with landowners, real estate brokers, legal counsel, appraisers, title companies, surveyors, donors, public officials, demolition and other contractors, environmental consultants, etc. to coordinate all aspects of project.
- Prepare work agreements, easements, covenants, memorandums of understanding, etc.
- Review title, contracts, amendments, appraisals, surveys, and other legal documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Negotiate terms of acquisitions, sales, contracts, and amendments before coordinating all aspects of closings.
- Present projects to the Project Committee for approval and provide updates to the Board, when needed.
- Maintain communication with landowners after project completion to foster relationships and connection to the Trust’s fundraising efforts.
- Represent Peconic Land Trust and clients at various meetings and participate in Town Advisory Committees, etc.
Essential Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively increasing experience in land acquisitions or land protection projects.
- Bachelor’s degree or at least 5 years direct experience.
- Must be able to read and interpret titles, surveys, appraisals, and environmental reports.
- Must be able to draft work agreements, costs analyses, conservation easements, project summaries, and other documents.
- Proven ability to explain technical information, roles and responsibilities to clients, partners and colleagues in a manner that is organized and easy to understand.
- Possess skills in land planning, negotiation and mediation.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work with multiple partners.
- Possesses public speaking skills and must be able to present to the public.
- Possesses advanced interpersonal skills and consistently build relationships with clients, team members and partners.
- Possesses highly effective analytical thinking ability to gather, understand, integrate, and synthesize complex information to develop solutions, make recommendations, or propose action plans.
- Computer literacy and ability to use landscape software effectively.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License with ability to commute to Southampton weekly.
Position Specifics
POSITION SPECIFICS:
- Hybrid position with at least 1-2 days a week in the Southampton, NY office after 90 days.
- Full-time, exempt position working at least 35 hours per week Mon-Fri to include some evenings and occasional weekends.
- Local travel by car regularly, NYC and tri-state travel by train, car or ferry, along with air travel out of state when needed.

- Starting salary $61k-$75k. The exact amount is commensurate with experience, knowledge and skills and may vary above or below the range, as permitted by applicable law.
