The Peconic Land Trust is approaching our 42nd anniversary of protecting Long Island’s working farms, natural lands, and heritage. Primary Responibilities
Reporting to the Director of Conservation Planning, assist with all aspects in the implementation of conservation easement transactions, acquisition projects and respective development/conservation projects as well as general department administration to research projects, and any other tasks that assist the team in increased efficiency and organization.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Take initial prospect calls, enter and ensure prospect and project information is consistent in all databases, coordinate with and provide information to other Departments as needed, participate in cross-departmental data process improvement projects
- Help complete and submit regulatory applications, pick up and deliver packages to facilitate the efficient management of project details.
- Assist with any real estate transaction related work, i.e. ordering appraisals, title reports, surveys, and recording documents at the County Center.
- Work with our GIS Technician to develop concept plans that illustrate the application of conservation tools that protect the most important features of the property, comply with current regulations and strive to meet the landowner’s financial goals.
- Assist with preparing the agenda for Project Committee meetings on a monthly basis, communicate with members as needed, prepare PowerPoint and other project materials for this meeting and others, and attend meetings to take notes.
- Compile, maintain, and update digital shared records and files, and assist in streamlining data records.
- Act as a back up to the front desk to answer phones and open, distribute and record mail.
Qualifications and Requirements
- 1-2 years’ administrative and office experience is a must for Assistant and 2-3 years’ conservation related experience for Sr. Assistant.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required. Ability to learn new software including Harvest, Landscape, Sales Force, the GIS and SCTM programs.
- Demonstrated experience as a team player including the ability to be flexible.
- Must be detail-oriented with excellent multi-tasking, organizational, communication and follow-through skills.
- Professional communication etiquette orally and written.
- Must be able to distinguish and know how to maintain confidential and sensitive information and matters.
- Title, survey, land use, grant writing and permitting experience a plus.
- Some weekend and after workday hours, including mandatory companywide events.
Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver's license with the ability to reliability commute to Southampton and attend two all-hands-on deck weekend events each year.

- $23-$27 per hour commensurate with experience and position level
- 35 hours a week Monday-Friday, with a hybrid work schedule after successfully completing the 90-day initial employment period.
