Winning Together: Partnerships at Broad Cove
May 15, 2026
By Yvette DeBow-Salsedo
On May 7, the Trust gathered with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and many of our conservation partners to celebrate Broad Cove!
In December, the Trust and the DEC closed on the conservation easement on the preserve, located in Aquebogue, securing its permanent protection. May's celebration highlighted this important milestone as well as shined a light on the many improvements to the preserve since the Trust acquired it in 2021.
These improvements include the parking area, bilingual signage, benches, a chronolog station, bluebird boxes, removal of invasive species and replanting of native grass plugs, and the two existing trails that lead to the water — as well as two new developments: the start of the meadow trail and the inclusion of Broad Cove on the New York State Birding Trail. Broad Cove Preserve is one of only three recognized sites on the North Fork of Long Island to be listed on this prestigious site!
Joining the Trust and the DEC at the announcement were partners from the Peconic Estuary Program (PEP), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), North Fork Audubon, New York State Bluebird Society, Peconic Baykeeper, Niamuck Land Trust, and community members representing the neighboring Bell Town Heritage Area, and a representative from Senator Palumbo.
Grants from the DEC, PEP, EPA — along with donations from individuals and foundations — have supported the variety of improvements at the preserve.
Thank you to everyone who joined us as we celebrated these accomplishments!
Broad Cove Preserve is open every day from dawn to dusk. Plan your visit soon.
