Trust’s Farms for the Future Initiative Receives Funding from NYS DEC to Enhance Farmland Access

At the end of May, the Trust received $100,000 from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) for the expansion of the Trust’s Farms for the Future Initiative. The Funding will be used to improve infrastructure on a 30-acre farm that will be the new Cutchogue Agricultural Center on Oregon Road. The improvements will include deer fencing, irrigation, and repairs to the barn. Ultimately, improving the effectiveness of farm operations at the preserve.
The award is part of the DEC’s competitive grant program, Conservation Partnership Program, administered by the Land Trust Alliance, to provide funding resources for land trust’s across New York State.
The $100,000 grant is one of 61 given to 45 land trusts this year – for a total of $3 million in awards. The grants supports a variety of efforts to protect water quality, prevent farmland conversion, boost public access for outdoor recreation, and conserve open space.
