A Family Farm Like No Other: Mama Farm

In 2012, actress, filmmaker, and philanthropist Isabella Rossellini donated a conservation easement to the Trust on 20.8 acres of land in the Hamlet of Brookhaven – part of a 27-acre farmstead she acquired earlier that year – and which would become Mama Farm.
Today, overseen by executive director, Elettra Wiedemann, Mama Farm aims to foster the next generation of environmental stewards through education and preservation of biodiversity which come to life through its member CSA (community supported agriculture), and one-of-a-kind programming such as avant-garde films, theater, workshops and children’s activities.
This month, Ms. Rossellini and Mama Farm are featured at the Tribeca Film Festival in the documentary "Farm to Fashion."
At the time of the conservation easement donation, Trust President John v.H. Halsey said: “Ms. Rossellini’s conservation of this property is truly a gift to the Brookhaven community. The potential existed for this to become another subdivision. Now it will join other conserved farmland and open space in the area and become a working farm that will serve the local community.”
