At the Common Table Dinner: Late August
In late August, join 150 friends and neighbors as they gather at the apple orchard of Quail Hill for our annual At the Common Table family style dinner to support the farms on-going activities. Local chefs prepare a sumptuous feast using farm produce and local meat, fish and shellfish; with wines provided by local vineyards. This is a magical experience for a late summer evening. The 2009 Tomato Taste-Off has been Cancelled :(
The Quail Hill Farm Great Tomato Taste-Off has quickly become a mainstay event for the East End. Each year, the farm organically grows somewhere in the range of 45 to 50 varieties of cherry, paste and heirloom tomatoes of all shapes, sizes and colors – including red, pink, orange, yellow, purple, and green. The typical hot sunny days and occasional rainfall here on the East End help fulfill the promise of an outstanding crop from year to year. With pen and clipboard in hand, “tasters” taste and rate the tomatoes – with cubes of country bread and designer water to cleanse the palate between bites.
However, unfortunately the 2009 Tomato Taste-Off has been cancelled due to Late Blight (phytophthora infestans). While always present, the moist, cool weather during the early months of summer created favorable conditions for this pathogen to cause widespread destruction of the tomatoes in our region.
Autumn Harvest Dinner
What better way to celebrate the fall bounty of vegetables than a special evening at a local restaurant. 2008's feast at the Old Stove Pub, featured the culinary creations of host and chef Colin Ambrose; Michael Cinque of Amagansett Wines provided the libations. Information on the 15th Annual Autumn Harvest Dinner will be available this summer.
And be sure to check out our Connections calendar for upcoming educational and recreational programs held at Quail Hill Farm as well as other conserved properties throughout the East End.
Quail Hill Farm also participates in the Sag Harbor Farmers Market.
