Please join us for the closing reception of "Plein Air Peconic" at the historic Clinton Academy before the exhibit moves on to the Cutchogue Library in August. Meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments as you view the beautiful landscapes created by these 12 talented artists. Sites depicted in the work of this group have been conserved with the help of the Trust throughout its 26-year history. All work is for sale and a percentage of sales will be donated to the Trust.

Learn about the various species of lavender and obtain tips on how you can grow your own magnificently scented blooms. Starting an herb garden can be an enjoyable project, especially if it is used to enhance your culinary creations! Join us for a presentation with herbalist Donna Penney that will explore how to select a location for your herb garden, choosing the right plants, including resources for those purchases, and what maintenance will be required throughout the growing season. Today's discussion will also include information about the Trust's current and future vision for the newly conserved Charnews Farm as a community resource. Refreshments will be provided. $5/person, and in the event of rain, we will move inside.

Please join us at the Trust's beautiful Bridge Gardens for a wonderful presentation in the lavender parterre! Rick Bogusch, our Garden Manager, will offer a lively discussion on the care and cultivation of numerous varieties of lavender. The evening will also feature a tasting of award-winning wines of Wolffer Estate Vineyard, including Wolffer Rose 2008, Wolffer Estate Chardonnay 2006, Wolffer Cabernet Franc 2005 and Wolffer Late Harvest Chardonnay 2007, all poured by winemaker extraordinaire Roman Roth! While enjoying the wine, sample a selection of divine confections created and presented by Miche Bacher of Sacred Sweets, and tour the grounds, including the amazing Spanish-styled knot garden surrounded by over 100 different herbs, view the topiaries, bask in the coolness of the bamboo room, and visit the shade garden. $50 per person, $40 per Bridge Gardens members. Come to the orchard at the Trust's Quail Hill Farm for a presentation by Donna Penney, certified aromatherapist and member of the National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy, United Plant Savers, and The Herb Society of America. Donna will discuss essential oils and their uses. Learn where and how they are gathered and hear of their uses in holistic medicines. $5/person, free to Farm Members. Meet us at the Ralph J. Solecki Visitors Center at Downs Farm Preserve for a fun-filled morning helping "Tipi" Ted erect a full-sized tepee! Listen as he talks about Plains Native People, and hear of the relationship they had with the buffalo, the provider of most of their daily use items. Touch buffalo skins and bones, play drums and bone games, and make a necklace. Take a hike along the trails and enjoy this special place. Family oriented, visitors center will be open. Meet biologist and bat expert, Bill Schutt, for a fun and informative evening discussion about the biology and behavior of our local, and not-so-local, bats. Bill will talk about ways to encourage bat populations in your neighborhood for their use as a natural mosquito control, as well as explore some of the reasons why bat populations are declining in New York. We will also set up a mist net in the hopes of collecting, examining and releasing a bat specimen or two.
